Today sees the start of Road Safety Week across the UK. A key week in the road safety calendar where partnerships, charities and road safety organisations from all over the UK will be promoting road safety messages and raising awareness of how we can all contribute to the safety of our roads.

Here, in Wales, it is also the start of our 20mph Campaign outside Primary Schools across the country. The 20mph speed limit outside the majority of Primary Schools in Wales is there to keep children and parents safe as they walk to and from school.

Walking to school is a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative to driving to school, and in the current climate an increasingly popular method of travel for parents and their children on their daily journeys to and from school.

Speeding is a major contributing factor in collisions on Welsh roads and can lead to serious injuries. By complying with the 20mph speed limit outside Primary Schools, you will be reducing the risk of serious harm to our most vulnerable road users.
