Established in September 2017, our mobile camera site on North Road, Newbridge, Caerphilly is a 30mph road.
A speed survey conducted at the time showed that the average speed at the site was 34.3mph with 15% of vehicles travelling at 39mph or more with 4% of vehicles travelling at speeds over 45mph. In all 77% of vehicles were exceeding the speed limit.
Whilst there hadn’t been any casualties at the site it was considered that the excess speed coupled with a number of hazards at the site warranted enforcement.
North Road is a busy, narrow road linking Newbridge and Crumlin. There are a few commercial outlets on the road but is predominantly a residential area.
A speed survey conducted in July 2019 showed that average speeds have fallen to 30.2mph, 15% of vehicles are travelling at 35mph or more and only 0.6% of vehicles are travelling at speeds over 45mph. It was found that 50% of vehicles were exceeding the posted limit.
Whilst significant reductions in speeding have been achieved there is still scope for further improvement and enforcement will continue for the foreseeable future.
We always enforce in the right place, at the right time, for the right reason to make Welsh roads safer for everyone.
