Spotlight on Sites - Mountain Hill, Pembrokeshire

In 2006 we established a mobile enforcement site on Hill Mountain, Pembrokeshire, which is a 30mph road.  An initial speed survey showed average speed of vehicles travelling on the road of 34.2mph with 65.6% of vehicles travelling at speeds above the speed limit. 15% of vehicles were travelling at speeds over 39.4mph and 4.7% were travelling at speeds over 45mph.

Sadly, collisions had resulted in 1 person sustaining serious injuries and 3 people sustaining minor injuries.

There are a number of houses having driveway access to the road and a bus stop along the route. There is also a garage and a camping site that has access to the road with the additional hazard of large slow-moving vehicles such as HGVs, agricultural vehicles and vehicles towing caravans.

The most recent speed survey showed that average speeds have fallen to 33.5mph but 62% of vehicles are still travelling at speeds in excess of the speed limit. 15% of vehicles are travelling at speeds over 38mph and 3.9% at speeds over 45mph.

There have been no further serious or minor injury collisions since the site was established.

The site has achieved its purpose of reducing casualties and average speeds but further enforcement is required to reduce these further.

GoSafe will always enforce in the right place, at the right time, for the right reason.
