The speed limit on the A465 between the A4059/A465 roundabout at Rhigos and the A465/A470 roundabout at Cefn Coed has been reduced from 60mph to 40mph. 

The speed limit has been reduced due to the ongoing roadworks on this stretch of the Heads of the Valleys road to protect both motorists and the workforce working close to live traffic. The road is narrower due to the ongoing works, machinery might need to cross the road to access work areas safely and vehicles that go too fast might throw up stones that could injure a road worker.

We kindly ask that drivers protect road workers and other road users by slowing down near the works and obeying all speed limits and signs.

 The 40mph speed limit will remain in place until the work on the A465 section 5 and 6 is completed, which should be mid-2025.

The existing average speed cameras are being used to ensure that drivers don’t exceed the speed limit, with any offences recorded processed by the GoSafe team in South Wales Police.
