Today should have been the first day of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show at the Showground in Builth Wells, but sadly due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the show, along with many other planned events throughout the country have been cancelled and the showground is silent and empty for the second year running.
GoSafe would have been there alongside our colleagues from Fire & Rescue, Ambulance Service, RNLI, Blood Bikes and other emergency services organisations, ready to start a busy week of engagement with members of the public from all over Wales, the UK, Europe and beyond.
One of the biggest attraction for people who have visited GoSafe’s stand at the Royal Welsh Show in past years, has been the opportunity to see inside one of our enforcement vans and speak to our Casualty Reduction Officers (CROs). The show also gives the public the opportunity to speak with us and ask questions about the work we do and road safety in general.
Over the course of the next few days, we will aim to give you a peek behind the lens by showing you what the inside of our vans look like, how our equipment works, explain why we enforce where we do and bust some of the myths about GoSafe.
Some may think the job is boring or tedious, but our officers sometimes catch some strange and dangerous behaviours. One CRO recalled catching a woman applying her lipstick whilst driving, focusing her entire attention on her rear view mirror rather than the road ahead.
Our CROs are passionate about road safety, and when they return from enforcing with zero offences recorded they return happy and positive that our presence is making roads and communities safer for everyone.
Wherever you are in Wales, you may come across one of our enforcement vans on your journeys. Whenever you see them, remember that we are in the right place, at the right time, for the right reason.
Keep a check on our Twitter and Instagram accounts for a wide range of content and topics. We plan to run a number of polls to gage public perceptions, learn about what concerns people most about road safety and discover more about those that use the roads of Wales. We will also be sharing behind the lens images and videos to give you a taste of the goings on behind the lens.
