Spotlight On Sites - Fulmar Road, Porthcawl

Fulmar Road, Porthcawl has a 30mph speed limit and is one of our mobile camera sites.

The site was originally established as a temporary enforcement location in 2015 with enforcement during the holiday season only. Due to the number of offences detected at this site, we reassessed it in 2019 and visits are now made throughout the year.

A speed survey conducted in January 2019 showed an average speed of 34mph with 79% of vehicles travelling above the speed limit and 4.2% of vehicles travelling at 45mph or more.

There had been 3 collisions at this site. Fortunately, this had resulted in 5 people receiving only minor injuries.

The road runs through a residential area with numerous potential driving hazards including bus stops and private driveways.

Since the site has been regularly enforced average speeds have reduced to 25mph with 11.8% of vehicles exceeding the speed limit and only 0.1% travelling at 45mph or more. These reductions occurred six months after regular enforcement started and is a good indicator how the presence of mobile safety camera vans have a beneficial influence on driver behaviour.

We enforce to reduce speeding and to reduce the risk of collisions and injuries on our roads, and will always enforce at the right place, at the right time, for the right reason.
