Community Speed Watch (CSW) is a group of volunteers who together with support from their local Neighbourhood Policing Team monitor speeds of vehicles in their villages and towns. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers rather than prosecuting.

Speeding is a concern for many of our communities, and Community Speed Watches assist in recording the level of speeding in an area which in turn will assist in identifying the need for more traditional speed enforcement by the Roads Policing Unit or even installation of Traffic Calming measures, such as the speed activated flashing signs.

The emphasis is very much on raising awareness of speeding in an area to drivers, with drivers exceeding the speed limit receiving letters advising them they have passed through a CSW area.

Training and high viz vests are provided, and you only need a minimum of three adults aged 18 and over to set one up.

Having concluded a successful trial in Ceredigion the scheme is being rolled out across Dyfed Powys in the coming months.

If you are interested in setting a Speed Watch up in your area, or would just like some more details please ring 101, leaving your contact details and the name of the village / town, and your details will be passed onto your local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
