Seatbelts
Seatbelts
Safety camera vans are now enforcing drivers who do not wear a seat belt, as well as drivers using a mobile phone and speeding motorists. You can be fined up to £500 if you don’t wear a seat belt.
All offences are recorded onto digital storage cards and sent to our Central Ticket Office for processing, who will then send the relevant information to the registered keeper of the vehicle.
Anyone exempt from wearing a seat belt will be able to state this on the request for driver information and, if relevant, send a copy of their exemption certificate.
You don’t need to wear a seat belt if you are:
- a driver who is reversing or supervising a learner driver who is reversing
- driving a vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue services.
- a passenger in a trade vehicle and you’re investigating a fault.
- driving a goods vehicle on deliveries that is travelling no more than 50 metres between stops.
- a licensed taxi driver who is ‘plying for hire’ or carrying passengers
- some medical conditions.
