Late Night Enforcement

We’re working with Gwent Police to tackle anti-social and dangerous driving.

You raised concerns for organised “racer meets” in the Gwent Police area, leading to anti-social and potentially dangerous driving on major roads between towns.

Excessive speed and dangerous driving combine two of the ‘Fatal 5’ offences, the leading causes of death or serious injuries on our roads. The latest road collision data shows that between January and March this year, 16 people were killed, 188 people were seriously injured, and 607 suffered slight injuries on Welsh roads. Whilst this is 17% less people than the previous quarter, anti-social and dangerous driving is puts everyone on the road at risk.

We’re working closely with Gwent Police to tackle the issue alongside Road Police Support Officers. Intelligence gathered will be used to carry out speed enforcement and inform police patrols. This data-led approach will make sure our mobile enforcement vans are in the right place, at the right time.

This work will disrupt the behaviour and keep people on Gwent roads safer.
